cothing also affects those roles in my game but for char have had both from the dark dessing wizard of the realms to a eye popping brightly clothed elf in ravenloft all in what they would ware

My characters are all dark, brooding loners who dress all in black and who wear hooded cloaks indoors, especially when they sit in the corners of dimly lit taverns, polishing their twin scimitars ...

No, wait, my characters are the ones using ghost sound to make it sound like those guys are farting up a storm.

Since color choice in character costuming doesn't effect skills like Hide, Diplomacy or Disguise, do you describe your character as having brash, vibrant or weird colors?

In my games, they do. If you are wearing a bright orange parka and trying to sneak through the forest, I'm adding a bonus for the NPCs to spot you. If you are dressed like a beggar and expect an audience with the King, you are going to suffer penalties to diplomacy checks.

While there is nothing in the PHB that overtly states your clothing has an effect, if you read the descriptions of items and such you will see that obviously these choices should have an impact. Armor that grants a bonus to hiding is described as being dark colors. While under the equipment you can buy a courtier outfit or noble outfit in order to blend in with the courts.

The SRD does have some info on this.

Courtier’s Outfit

This outfit includes fancy, tailored clothes in whatever fashion happens to be the current style in the courts of the nobles. Anyone trying to influence nobles or courtiers while wearing street dress will have a hard time of it (-2 penalty on Charisma-based skill checks to influence such individuals). If you wear this outfit without jewelry (costing an additional 50 gp), you look like an out-of-place commoner.

I have had many characters over the ages. Some were peacocks, others not.

Which, of course, suggests the research of a spell - Fistandantilus' Fartstorm, Tasha's Uncontrolable Hideous Cheescutting or something similar...

Moreover, the DMG section on spot distances uses modifiers for contrast, this could quite logically be carried over to all Spot checks (in this case opposing Hide checks).
