. My players have a great time, I have a great time - and we make adventures worth retelling for years to come. Who could ask for more?

Isn't that an amazing sensation to be at a social function with your friends, completely non-game related event, and find them enthusiastically talking about the last game session you ran for them? My players are all very professional individuals with families and careers, I think the games I run give them the chance to blow off the dust that accumulates over their imaginations during the work week and cut loose. It's just a great feeling.

It makes all the work worthwhile.

I rated myself as average. Some sessions are great, others suck boulders. Most of the time it's plain fine. Nothing special, but we all have fun.

Welcome to Lake Enworld, where all the wizards are strong, all the fighters are good-looking, and all the DMs are above average (not quite all, but I do think EN World would have a above average selection of DMs).

Surely a more accurate poll would be to have <dm's handle here> rated by their players who post here - though that'd only work if a number of the players were posting, the individual votes were hidden and that DM had a thick enough skin to deal with an uncomplimentary result.

Ya, not such a good GM. Players falling to sleep, or talking about other campaigns during the middle of the most important part of the campaign.

One of the best I have ever gamed with is Coyote6. Years of plot creation and clue laying. Patience like you would not believe.

Hmm.. the system's flawed, 12 % has voted themselves as the top 10%. We have some liars among us. ;)

I'm not the best, I have my off days where I just can't get into characters or the game. Then I have days where everything is awesome, and the game goes great. Lucky its more of the latter than former.

I pretty much stink!

Well, I'm not actually all that bad (I don't think), but I'm going to put myself in the "stinky" category for now since I'm going to be DM'ing a game for about the first time in about 15 years except for a "one-off" a few years ago. As a result, I'm horribly out of practice.

Having said that, I'm busily building out my world from the outside in right now, and I'm hoping to get the players a "high level" world document within the next week, things like the mythology of the world, information about deities, a bit of world history (which would be the common stuff). This will be the basics of the world that the players would commonly know about to get them thinking about potential character concepts. The following week will be the players character development document which will let them know the technical side of building a character, i.e. races, classes, prestige classes, feats allowed etc. They will then be able to put together their characters.

Hopefully, if things go well in my initial planning, the campaign will get off to a good start and with a good first adventure that I have in mind...................maybe I won't be as bad as I think I am.

cheers
