How Grapples work. Do i have this right?

I'm not sure if the monk could use the flurry of blows to grapple or not, but as a DM I would allow it. Although I would apply the -2 to each grapple attack.

I wouldn't however allow you to tie up a concious victim that you've pinned. A pinned creature is not helpless, you just get massive bonus' to hit. Pinned or not the foe is still struggling and fighting. However, he is a much easier target to hit, and that makes him much easier to subdue.

Monks are a spellcasters worst enemy.

Get a Hold: Roll an opposed grapple check (base attack bonus + strength vs. base attack bonus plus either strength or dex).

This is an error. You can NOT use dexterity in a grapple check.

I do think the creature that is attacked by the touch attack gets an AoO. It would be attacking the tentacles/limbs that are reaching for you. Hit it and it recoils, seems reasonable.

A creature with improved grapple ALWAYS triggers an AoO when he tries to hit an opponent with a touch attack to begin a grapple. The only thing that Improved Grapple does is give you a free grapple check AFTER you hit someone with a normal unarmed strike, NOT a touch attack.

Since it is a free grapple check, I think this is the only way to get more grapple checks in a round than attacks from BaB.

Grapple checks are always limited to attacks from BaB. The monk has a faster BaB progression so he has an advantage. The only breaking of this rule is with creatures that get "free" grapple check, like creatures with Improved Grapple, Improved Grab, Snatch, etc

While on the subject of grappling, another question that has come up in our group that we were wondering about. Is there any penalty to reflex saves while grappling? We house ruled it at the time that the reflex save was an automatic failure as you do not have the freedom to jump out of the way. Is there a official rule on this? This has actualy come up a couple of times when people were grappling in an area effect spell radius.

As far as I know there is no official rule. We use the houserule that you can't apply your dex to your reflex, since you also lose your dex to AC.

Automatic failure seems far to powerfull to me. You can always try to use the other grappler as a shield vs the blast ;)

No, there is no rule that says you have a penalty to reflex saves from grappling. Unless you are pinned and immobile, you get a normal reflex save. While you're grappling, you could reflexively duck to take half damage.

WotC has refrained from putting penalties and bonuses to saving throws to keep it from getting more complex than it already is. You can, of course, institute house rules to modify reflex saves when being grappled.
