How has the 4e/3e schism affected you?

IRL, this schism hasn't existed for me, except as a point of conversation. Everyone in my group leaped into 4E with both feet and hasn't regretted it once.

Online, it's seriously dampened my enjoyment of online messageboards. It's not that I'm bothered by people who don't want to switch; I'm just bothered by the vitriol swirling about the subject, and the fact that it's hard to discuss the current edition of my favorite hobby without it turning into an argument at some point in the process.

I think only the DMs in our group care about what we play; players are a bit too lazy in our group.

And since we play alot of different games anyway, 3.5E/4E is only a minor issue.

The 3.5e/4.0e split HAS affected me personally because I will now continue to run/play BOTH editions; they both have cool things I like and both have serious issues. I have never done this before; once a new edition comes out I have always switched or not switched.

The fact is; 3.5E and 4E are sufficiently different that comparing them is like saying apples are better than pears. Well some days I like apples but other days pears taste much better.

Aren't you going to try to convince me that apples are so much tastier and that pears are "broken"?

One of my players announced that he'd be bringing the new books to the next session for us all to look at.

One of my DMs expressed concern that the Echoes of Heaven campaign might move to 4E eventually.

One player has said that he doesn't care for books that aren't allowed in the campaign.

I've decided to stick with 3.5 for a while. I have too many adventures and campaigns sitting on my shelf. My players haven't complained about that decision.

My forum reading and posting is slowly coming back as the edition bashing dies down. I still avoid those threads.

Aside from increased d20 visibility here (only a handful of us play d20, the rest of us play other things), it's not had any kind of affect at all actually. Just got 4e last weekend; restarting my 3.x game as of this evening. Will probably convert to a 4e game when more of the books are out.

The schism hasn't had any effect at all on the groups I'm in. In terms of browsing, I've found myself spending a lot of time reading the arguments here and on other sites. Which is odd, since it's been several years since I've bought any d20 or OGL products.

The 'schism' hasn't affected my groups at all. We're all still happily playing 3.5e and will continue to do so for the next few years.

ENWorld is really the only place I frequently visit, and I'll admit it's been a little unfriendly (and in particular fanboy-ish on both sides), though I don't think that's affected me at all.

all it's done is moved us to the pathfinder camp...none of my 6 player like anything they saw of 4e. so were staying 3.5 and pathfinder
