How has the 4e/3e schism affected you?

It's getting on my fracking nerves. IRL it's not an issue for me.

On ENWorld, I wish the mods would start bringing down the ban hammer on the trolls. It's getting way out of hand is is making it very hard to enjoy the forums.

This.

No schism in my gaming group and in fact with the addition of 4e, I've only added people. It's been a real boost to my group.

As my group (I'm the DM) has been playing a mutilated 3.95 (3.5 with UA variants, ToB and Saga etc) or what have you, 4th Ed is just a natural progression.

It has also sparked interest in us starting up a Basic, or 1st/2nd Ed campaign (first time in 14 years) for me to run alongside our 4th Ed.

I don't think I could ever go back to DMing 3.5…I became…disillusioned.

In my 2 groups (11 people in total) only 1 voiced any concerns about it but he still wants to give Keep on the Shadowfell a try. 3 are very gung ho about starting a new 4E game (4 if you count me) and the rest either have no opinion or haven't voiced one (same thing in my mind - you don't participate you don't get a vote on what we play).

So no schisms, arguments or break ups. I think one of my groups will stick with 3E for a while and the other will do 4E (I'm the DM in both). The very occasional game I play in will have to stick with 3E as it is the Shackled City adventure path (and who'd want to convert all of that).

No schism in real life, we have currently two games one at my House where me or my brother DM which has switched to 4th and another which is 3.5 at the other DM's house, we all play both editions big whoop.

the other DM was a bit sceptical about 4th but he just likes to argue and we've swayed him now, another person in the 4th ed group I think is just taking a while to get to grips (he was a power gamer in 3rd)

People complaining about the old/new edition, should really just knock it off, and keep to playing whatever game they feel happy with.

P.S much respect to posters like Lord Tirian, Mouseferatu and PawsPlay who can comment on the good and bad of both editions without implied loathing or snide insinuated comments.

Yep, I can hardly even look at the WotC 4th Ed boards, their questions and problems simply do not exist for me. And I find these and other D&D boards mess with your head lately, make you second guess what you know deep down is right.

As for "the real game" there is no problem. The 3.5 campaigns I am in were reaching an end anyway, so no discussion whether to convert or not. It seems to clear to everyone involved that the people who might start new D&D campaigns will want to do it in 4th edition, which is fine by the players. The rules have never been that important in the group, and with 4E being so much easier for the DM it felt like a good choice.

Online? What annoys me is that it feels impossible to discuss a detail in the new design without people trying to bring it into their warzone. It just ends up taking too much energy when you have to fight both sides in a conflict at once just to be able to get a point across.

No schismn in my group either.
Everyone was willing to test out Pathfinder until 4E was out, and now everyone wants to play 4E (I fear my first regular session can only disappoint them, with so high expectation! I am just an average to bad DM! ;) )

I think most people that have a stable group have found a group that shares similar tastes. If there wasn't a lot of friction in your group due to differing play styles before, 4E just won't change that.

But message boards are different. The members are diverse, they have different play styles.
Yep, I agree.
