How I loved Photon!

Somehow I got on the subject of Laser Tag with one of my coworkers and I immediately dove into telling him about the granddaddy... the Dallas Photon. The Dallas location opened when I turned 11 and I had many birthday parties there. I got all nostalgic for it especially when I found this site.

Photon Laser Tag - Home

Looks like I might have to track down an old copy of Unreal Tournament just so I can try out the Photon map. :)

I played at some of the other laser tag places but none of them ever came close to the Photon experience. If only they'd come back. :(

I never got to play the real thing, but after my freshman year of college, a bunch of us went to KB toys and bought some Lazer Tag and GI Joe laser game equipment (the sensors, rifles and pistols were 100% compatible with each other), and played in several urban locations throughout the Metroplex.

One particularly hilarious night, we played all over the River Walk in Las Colinas, mightly ticking off the guy who was there with his date who was distracted & laughing her head off at our game. He was constantly shouting out things like "He's over there, hiding behind the kiosk, you blind morons!"

Apparently, its difficult to get past 1st base when surrounded by a bunch of guys playing a laser gun game.

Anywhooooo, you might want to feed your nostalgia by checking out the video for The Black Keys' "Strange Days" (from their 2008 release, Attack and Release)- its set in a laser-tag environment...then gets whacky.

I never played in an actual Photon facility, but we did play lazer tag. I got a Lazer Tag set for Christmas the year it came out. I was the only one though so it sat for years, until finally I found a friend had a couple of guns and sensors and he had a friend with a couple more. So, maybe 10? years after they had come and gone, I was playing lazer tag. We used to play at the Berkeley Rose Garden at night, which was fun, especially since the rose garden had an underground tunnel leading to a park across the street, (though if you stayed in the park you'd pretty much be gauranteed to be bored, because the range was too far and the park too spread out to be in the thick of things).

Ah to be 8 years old again. I have good memories playing Laser tag at the 49 Street Galleria in Murray, Utah. Like the Photon it is closed for good now. Probably for the best; my urban friends told me of its various nicknames over the years.
