How long before a reprint?

First Post
How long does an initial print-run usually last in the RPG industry? I figured that because I am already a month or so in it might do well to just wait until the second printing of the XPH to try and evade some of the minor, albeit annoying, typos and errors.

Are we looking at a few more weeks, a few months, or is this never going to actually happen?

Depends on many factors like how big was the first and when will it sell out. I imagine a second printing, if it comes, will be about a year away.

Don't forget that the errors will only be fixed in the 2nd print if WotC takes the time to make the correction before sending it to be printed again.

See, I don't think any 3e DnD book has received a second printing other than the 3.0 PHB, where they did fix the errors.

So I wouldn't wait. If the wrrors annoy you more that you can stand don't buy it. If they don't then do.

I seem to remember S&F being reprinted with erratta, could be wrong though.

The problem being, for them to do a reprint, they have to sell the first run out, and of course to get a second printing you'd need to find a store with it, since they're not likely to order more until they're out.

...So in summary, for RPG's when waiting for a reprint, don't hold your breath. :)

Some titles do, however. Arcana Unearthed (Monte's PHB) was reprinted fairly quickly, but it's because it sold like it was on fire the first week.

Very few RPG products are ever reprinted. Only a small fraction of those reprinted have errata fixed in them. We fixed the errors we had discovered in our second printing of Arcana Unearthed, but it was only 5-6 things (due in part, I'm sure, to the fact that the reprint came so quickly after the book's initial release).

While probably 5-6 WotC RPG products have been reprinted (and it could be considerably more, I'm only talking about the ones I know about), I only know of one that had errors fixed (the PH). I did some work right before leaving WotC creating a reprint fixes file for the DMG, but I don't think it was ever used (I think they did publish it on the website, though).

No, that one was pretty ok to laugh at! (carefully re-reads for spelling errors...)

Hey Monte, thanks for the insight. Which WotC ones got reprints while you were there?
