Think about it. All of you "4E Fanboys" are just going to deal with yet another edition change come the year 2013. Why bother, really? Why let WotC dupe you?
If I stop buying new editions, it won't be because I feel I'm being "duped" by whatever edition is to follow. It'll be because I've found something that I really, really like, and the new version isn't looking better to me. But as it stands now, even though I like 3.5 and have invested quite a chunk of change into it, its burning me out with prep time, and combats are too micromanaged. As much as I hate to admit it, too many fiddly bits are killing my imagination. 3.5 is a player's dream, but a DM's job. If 4e can fix that, then WotC has me as a customer. If not, I still like 3.5 better than the older editions (though I still have a place in my heart for the boxed sets) so I'll keep with it. Nor can I blame a company for wanting to make a profit by keeping their sales fresh. I already have enough 3.5 books to play the next 50 years and never recycle material if I wanted. I highly doubt they could put out anything more that would be worth the paper, and i think WotC is well aware of the dwindling profit they can make from setting book#887 or race book #99, etc.
Change is inevitable. But some will no doubt stay with 3.5. Even I will likely continue my 3.5 campaign for at least the next year or so. But no one is forcing anyone to play the new edition du jour or forcibly burning 3.5 books. I think the frustration comes from those who see their stream of 3.5 products ending. But really, how much more could they make, and still make money? Last I checked, WotC wasn't Non-Profit. Sure, they could put new stuff out for 3.5, but I think there's a glut of stuff already. Besides, I'm sure some 3rd party publishers will keep the 3.5 dream alive thanks to the OGL.
If change means 4.5 comes out in 5-6 years, well then I'll take a look at it and see, instead of taking it as some personal slight against the gaming community or me individually, with the thought of "How dare they change MY game! Liars! Liars! I thought you loved me! How could you? You've changed too much to bear!" ***said as I clutch my dying PHB in my arms***
