Add another Starter Set to this. My OCD forced me to pick up another copy at Barnes & Noble last night.

4 PHBs among 6 players + me as GM. Seems like a pretty good ratio, but 5E makes being a caster too easy so it isn't enough.

We have a larger-than-normal group with five rotating DMs (who sometimes play) and six players (who don't DM).
Breaks down as follows:
Three DMs have all three core books
One DM has the PHB and the DMG
One DM has the PHB and the MM (and plans to buy the DMG eventually)
Of the players, none of them have any of the rulebooks, though I considered buying a PHB for one of them as a gift. Two other players are unlikely to ever buy the rulebooks.

Group of 5, have had 4 guest players over the course of the game so far.
I have the only books: Starter set, PHB, MM and now the DMG. For about the first month, I was just using the Starter set/Free rules, now we're using the full game. Also bought spell cards, been waiting over a month for the Arcane and Cleric deck to be in stock (should get the Arcane Friday, thankfully - still waiting on the Divine).
Compare that to previous editions (Core books only):
4E: 2 PHB1s, PHB2, PHB3, all MM's, DMG1
PF: 1 Core book(+PDF), 1 Bestiary (1-4, physical & PDF)
3.5E: 4 PHB's (& 1 PHB2), 2 MM's (1,3,4 & 5), 2 DMG (one home set, one travelling set)
3.0: had 3 PHB's, 1 MM (1,2 & FF), 1 DMG
2E: 2 PHBs (had 4, 2 original, 2 revised), 1 MM (+ 5 annuals, + campaign world MM's), 1 DMG
1E: 1 PHB, 1 MM (1,2 & FF), 1 DMG + UE
