densest gemstones have a density of 4,8. Gold has 19,3. So any volume of gold vs gemstones will be at least 4 times as dense. Good thing that gemstones have better value per mass.

Yeah. I wasn't saying that they are as heavy as gold, but rather that converting a ton(sometimes literal) of gold into gems doesn't necessarily make it carryable. A lot of people I've played with convert to gems, thinking that gems really don't weigh much of anything.
