How many escape grapple attempts does a Red Dragon get?

Question:
If a Mature Adult Red Dragon was grappled by Evard’s Black Tentacles spell, on the Dragon’s turn, how many attempts does the dragon get to free itself using the grappling method. How attempts does it get when using the Escape Artist method?

If I’m reading this right, it should get 5 attempts using the grappling method and one attempt using the Escape Artist skill. Is this correct?

Thanks!

Yes, that is correct, assuming off course that the dragon takes a full-attack action to get those 5 attempts.

Nope, not quite right. You can attempt to "wriggle free" from the grapple as a standard action. Otherwise you can use each available attack of a full attack action to roll an opposed grapple check to escape.

In either case, as a side note:
If more than one opponent is grappling a combatant, the combatant's grapple check result has to beat all their check results to escape.

You don't escape one tentacle at a time, you are either still grappeld or you escape them all, it appears.

My first thought on reading the threat title was...

Who or what in their right mind would grapple a Dragon?

Artoomis is correct, when escaping multiple grapplers, your roll must beat all of the grapple checks of your opponents.

I may be wrong, but AFAIK grapple atempts are based off BAB. And since multiple attacks from BAB cap at 4 (notwithstanding the unerrataed Solar :)), shouldn't the dragon get 4 grapple attempts with a full attack action?

Since you can use natural weapons while grappled, I wouldn't be surprised if the mature adult red dragon wouldn't just Cleave through the lot of them :)

(OK, he might not have great cleave - but that seems like the ultimate takedown tactic to use against evards tentacles - well, that and whirlwind attack, but great cleave is easier to get to!)

Cheers

Natural weapons do not cap of at 4 attacks.

I know, but since grapple attempts are based off BAB, the number of natural weapons possessed by the creature shouldn't matter. A carrion crawler taking a full attack can make 12 attacks (IIRC - no MM at work) with natural weapons, but gets only one grapple check a round even with a full attack, due to low BAB. And since BAB-based attacks cap at 4, shouldn't that be the same for grapples (as in the example of the mature adult red dragon)?
