How many escape grapple attempts does a Red Dragon get?

Well, a dragon could use scimitars that had an enchantment from MotW, so let's move on.

The dragon in question would get 4 BAB attacks, one speed attack (we'll assume that you can't get one from both, for the obvious reasons), plus 3 off-hand BAB attacks.

Then the dragon would get the bite, 2 wings, the tail slap.

So I guess you'd get 12 attacks.

You'd have: scimitar +74/+74/+69/+64/+59 and off hand scimitar +74/+69/+64, bite +64, 2 wings +64, tail slap +64

Damage: scimitar 1d6+24, off hand scimitar 1d6+15, bite 4d8+17, wings 2d8+8, tail slap 4d6+25

If you assume the dragon has the proper sized scimitars, then the scimitar damage shoots up to something like 4d8+24 for his collosal scimitars.

He could power attack for +20 to damage (at -20 to hit). I'd assume that he also buffed with Righteous might... quite the feat for a collosal being.

That would increase the damage to (not including power atk)... scimitar 8d6+26, bite 8d6+19, wings 4d6+9, tail slap 4d8+28.

Add divine favour or prayer for another +6 to hit and damage.

The kicker to all this would be to cast iron body. Final damage (with power atk)
scimitar 8d6+55, off hand scimitar 8d6 + 44, bite 8d6+48, wings 4d6+37, tail slap 4d8+59.

Of course, there could be more.

Huhm...

Assuming a lvl6 fighter, he has two grapple attempts for his +6/+1 BAB, right?

But if he tries to grapple a guy with a BAB of 5, that guy defends himself against those grapple attempts each time with his full score, right?

That means usually it makes no sense to use several attacks for a grapple attempt?

Just because the defender uses the full bonus doesn't mean he's going to win, since there's a d20 for each to roll. The same is true for someone making multiple attempts to sunder a weapon or disarm someone. The attacker's attack bonus gets progressively lower, while the defender's stays the same, but the attacker needs to beat the defender only once to succeed.

Keep in mind, however, that the FAQ is extremely suspect- the people answering the questions there often, er, don't seem to know the rules all that well.

The "people" answering the questions in the FAQ is actually one person - Skip "The Sage" Williams.

Your thinking of Customer Service. They don't have anything to do with the FAQ.

The FAQ is made up of questions answered by Skip Williams (who writes the Sage Advice column for Dragon), and is theoretically reviewed by WOTC R&D before being updated. Theoretically.

Creatures with Improved Grab make grapple checks based on the quantity of their natural attacks, not their BAB. (Don't know where I read that, and I'm about to fix dinner. I'll look into it later if someone else doesn't get to it first. *grin*)

I did some digging and was not able to find any official rules on this. The best I came up with is the BAB method which caps at 4. So far, it looks like the Dragon can reasonably:

1) Make 4 "Break Grapple" attempts OR:
2) Make a single "Escape Artist" attempt OR:
3) Perform a single "Breath Weapon" in the hope to destroy all tentacles that are grappling it. OR:
4) Cast a non-somatic spell and try to beat the concentration check too.

If someone did see something official on the above quote, could you point me in the right direction. Thanks!

LT :)
