How many game books on your shelf have you never used?

I have hundreds of D&D books, ranging from Basic to 1E to 2E to 3E to 3.5E. I'm thinking about selling off all my 2E stuff to make more shelf space.

I've started making a conscious effort to use material from all the sources I have purchased, and it seems to be working so far.

Those I've never used under any context are Spycraft, Book of Exalted Deeds, Stronghold Builder's Guidebook, Arcana Unearthed, Ghostwalk, Epic Level Handbook (which I was able to get for insanely cheap at buy.com because of a mistake they had in pricing), and probably Fiend Folio. Well, and Draconomicon, but I just got that recently and haven't had much of an opportunity to use it. BoED, FF, ELH, and maybe SBG are likely only a matter of time before I use them, but the others probably won't ever see any usage.

Games I have never played? Quite a few.

Games I have never used? A couple.

Even games that I do not play provide inspiration for the games that I do.

Hmm. Going through my shelf, I can't recall having used anything from the Book of Exalted Deeds or the Dragonomicon (although the latter might be a 'yet', and a feat from the BoED may have crept in at one point) The AEG stuff has been a mixed bag - I think the one that's seen the most use there is Empire, and the least either War or Dungeons. Oh, and the Psionics stuff from WOTC and Malhavoc, only because I haven't managed to get anyone to play a psion yet. I think I've used (or am going to use) stuff from everything else, even if that's just a monster or a feat.

I probably have 10-12 'heavy use' books, a small second tier of books that gets used for one particular game/setting, and the rest are stuff I steal tiny bits and pieces from.

No clue. A lot. Well into the hundreds, maybe over a thousand. I've been collecting RPG stuff since the late 70s, and am a firm believer in Harlan Ellison's maxim, "Who wants a library full of stuff he's already read?"

It's hard to say though what constitutes "use". I've got a lot of World of Darkness stuff, but I've never played a WOD game per se. But a lot of the material in those books inspired other gaming situations. Ditto my FR stuff. I have a soft spot in my heart for the setting, but I've never actually been able to run or play anything long term in it. But I've read and enjoyed the material. That counts as "use" in my book.

Decipher's Lord of the Rings Game.

Maybe I'll use it for a guide to making a d20 version, but PLAY IT? Nah...

Otherwise, I've played all my game books with the exception of my 1e books, which I have for reference and collectible's sake.

HI,

Erm, it's probably easier to ask how many I've used rather than how many I haven't -- but, like many others, I enjoy reading and collecting them.

Cheers

Richard

Because of the modular natureof d20 stuff I've probably used a little bit from most of my books- a feat here or a spell there...

I actually went and looked. I can actually list a few things I have never used:

the DC Universe d6 rulebook, Deadlands d20, Orkworld, Nephilhim, and Weird Wars. Until recently I hadn't used the miniatures handbook in a meaningful way, but now I have a PbP game with both a Marshal and a Warmage in it, so I'm using that quite a lot lately.

Everything else I've used at least once.
