How many gamehours between levelling up

For us, roughly 50.

And don't believe Diaglo. What he's trying to say is that he's been playing the same character weekly for nine years, but his DM doesn't know how to calculate experience. :D

I've started keeping a log of XP for my characters, and reviewing my Eberron character last night, she's leveled about once every other session on average. As our sessions tend to be 8 hours each, that's about 15-16 hours/level.

A lil' calculating...

We just had a level up two sessions ago in session 18 of my current campaign. All the PCs started at 2nd level, are 8th level now, and our sessions run approximately 8 hours each.

That comes out to 144 hours to gain 7 levels, or approximately 20.5 hours played per level gained.
Of course, lower levels go by faster than higher levels.

I've currently started shooting for approximately 1000 XP per session per PC (irrespective of what is actually being done), which works out to roughly the pace of advancement I want. Since each session is about 4-5 hrs of playing, it works out to 15-20 hrs to get from 4th to 5th, 20-25 hrs from 5th to 6th, 25-30 hrs from 6th to 7th, etc.

We're averaging about 15 hours a level at the moment, but the setting is pretty lethal. I'm not really giving out XP for roleplaying at all and they're still bumping up at that rate.

As I noted above, 15 hours, but quite frankly I feel that's too fast. Now that they've reached 7th level I've knocked back the experience reward by half, just to slow the pace.

This was the approximate levelling rate of the PCs in my last campaign. Or maybe just a tad slower, like around 20 hr/level. Normally I prefer slightly slower advancement, or else the campaign just gets too big too soon.

I think change's good. I wouldn't want to run a campaign with the same characters during eight years right now. I want to experiment more things than I used to. Until this "long campaign desire" comes back, I'll be happy with the "14 encounters-or-so for a level" pace the CR system accomodates. It means for me, with my group, that characters will grow from 1st to 20th level in a bit more than two years RL. Not bad.

I think it will feel good then to change for another campaign.

The way the rules are written PC's on average should level up once every standard adventure.

On average for most of the play groups I've been in it takes about 10-15 hours to complete 1 standard adventure.

Have been playing in an age of worms game recently (thank the pantheons for a break from DMing) and it seems about on par with how I've interpreted 3.x to the above advancement rate.

Honestly though, I really prefer a slower advancement... Having PC's zip from 1-20 as fast as they do now, you have 23 year old lvl 20 archmages... and they didn't even have to break into the elixirs of youth! I feel that they basically have streamlined the game down to the absolute basics of a CRPG like diablo...
