How many gamers you know post in forums?

I thought 'forum internet user' was an automatic class skill for rpg-geeks like us!!

In 1999, WotC's market research put the number of rpg gamers in the millions.

EN World has 85,000+ registered users, but if you look around, only a few hundred, maybe a couple thousand at the outside, are really active posters. Other forums are of similar size, and there aren't that many of them.

Unless the numbers of gamers has plummeted in the past decade, the implication is the percentage of gamers who post on forums is small.

Out of my present group and other gamers I've known over the years, I can only think of one person offhand who has even heard of ENworld, RPG.net, Dragonsfoot, etc ... As far as I know, this person mentioned they don't post much at all.

All of them. I play mostly online, either PBP, via VTTs or via Google Wave. Literally every single gamer I know goes or has gone to forums, particularly this one, Wizard's community and myth-weavers.com.

Same for me, I am the only one I know that posts (or even reads) RPG forums. Most guys don't have the time and/or are not interested in RPGs beyond just playing. That said I am always the DM so that may have something to do with it.

Very few.

There are 12 in my area that regularly play, and about 9 in my hometown... so 21 I would say I get to play with at least every once in a while...

1 posts regularly...

...that's me.

2 others browse forums for ideas, or to post or read about rules discussions but that equates to a post a month or so.

All but one.. so, about twenty-thirty people in all.
I'd wager that RPG players are one of the most tech-savvy hobby groups around.

I know a bunch of gamers, I am the only one who posts, though several lurk.

One posted here a few times - Dreamweaver? Something like that. I haven't seen her since she left the state and got married. She recognized me, I don't really know how. :p

The Auld Grump
*EDIT* Nope - Moonspider. She last posted here in 2003, has it really been that long?
