D&D 5E How Many in your Group?

How many PC's are in your current group?

5 is my limit. Both my D&D and SW groups have 5 players. I've had requests to expand, but I've turned them down. 4 is preferable, though. More players means less focus on each player, which I'm not a fan of.

I had seven in my last game. It was more than I like. Single monsters are useless, and play slows down, but it does work. Three players Would be optimal if they always showed. For to give is a good balance.

My table will only have 2-5 players at a time, but there are 8 active PCs and 2 PCs that are semi-retired but still alive in the story. The sessions are designed to be drop-in style of 3-4 hours that start/end in some type of sanctuary. Some players make off-stage actions when they cannot make a particularly play session. It's hard to manage, but moves the broad story-arc along in ways that feel like a series of novels or TV show rather than an arcade game or action movie.

Our main group is 4, sometimes 5, and the DM. About the limit of my personal preference. The other group I regularly game with is a pickup game at our FLGS that can up to 10-12 at times. Turns into a complete mess at that level.

We have 3 players plus DM. This seems to work really well - every PC is critical and has lots to do. I think 4 also works very well. I would not play again with 5+ ... no-one gets much of a go imo.

Currently, I am not playing D&D. However, the group is 4 players plus myself as GM. The group will be returning to 6 players (possibly increasing to 8) as
a) the fiancee of another player is coming from Canada and will be joining us;
b) one former player is returning after taking time off for school and to play hockey.
b) one former player is thinking of returning to gaming (after two years off to deal with life and work issues);
c) another former players is talking of returning now that we reconnected over facebook.
I also, now, have a waiting list of three players, but if the above members don't all join, I will be capping at six.
