So they changed the ten types of rings of resistance to no longer require attunement.

It seems as a consequence we might see more Mandarin styles of adventurers now. Or at least characters that aim for that.

In 2014 it was just four rings in the DMG: animal influence, swimming, three wishes, and water walking.

But the rule that multiple items of the same type won't work still stands, and the rings of resistance do not have individual listings. This implies that if you are wearing a Ring of Resistance - Acid, a Ring of Resistance - Lightning will not work. You could own both but you would have to hot-swap them as only one would work at a time. At least, that is how it would be at my table. YMMV.

Does not need attunement
Ring of Animal Influence
Ring of Resistance
Ring of Swimming
Ring of Three Wishes
Ring of Water Walking

Needs attunement
Ring of Djinni Summoning
Ring of Elemental Command
Ring of Evasion
Ring of Feather Falling
Ring of Free Action
Ring of Invisibility
Ring of Jumping
Ring of Mind Shielding
Ring of Protection
Ring of Regeneration
Ring of Shooting Stars
Ring of Spell Storing
Ring of Spell Turning
Ring of Telekinesis
Ring of the Ram
Ring of Warmth
Ring of X-Ray Vision
So all those rings that do require attunement does cut down on the potential number of rings a single character can wear (if it's simply just not a typo or badly edited text). It really depends on whether, as is being discussed, all the types of the Ring of resistance count as only one possible ring, or are actually 10 different types. Also, it's probably going to be rare that anyone will use up all three attunement slots on just rings.

The rings without attunement are either so minor or niche that it doesn't matter powerwise or so powerful that your DM won't hand it out without care.

So 100.

In 14 that rule was that you use common sense to not double up on multiple suits of armor over each other or such and not that you can't wear multiple resistance rings or wield two identical magical daggers or whatever.

MULTIPLE ITEMS OF THE SAME KIND
Use common sense to determine whether more than one of a given kind of magic item can be worn. A character can't normally wear more than one pair of footwear, one pair of gloves or gauntlets, one pair of bracers, one suit of armor, one item of head wear, and one cloak. You can make exceptions; a character might be able to wear a circlet under a helmet, for example, or be able to layer two cloaks.

Has the text changed in 24?

The text is almost the same as in 2014. The only meaningful difference is that 2014 gives examples of possible exceptions allowing you to wear more than one of the categories it says you can usually only wear one, and 2024 just says the DM might make exceptions.

There has never been a limit (other than possible attunement) on the ring or amulets/neckware categories in 5e.
