How Many Movies In How Many Days?

Unattainable Ideal
Okay, so my wife is off for the month on a writing retreat as she tries to get through the majority of her novel, so I'm kind of stumbling around for things to keep me occupied. I stood staring at our DVD shelf, unable to pick anything to watch. No one movie leapt out at me, saying, "Watch ME! Put those other movies aside and focus on ME for the next two hours!"

I stood there for minutes, paralyzed by indecision. Then I realised what I could do.

I could go through the collection alphabetically.

We have ALMOST every letter in the alphabet represented in our collection (missing: "Q" and "X"), and she'll be gone for 26ish days, so it made sense.

In a pathetic, anal-retentive sort of way, I know. I'm comfortable with that.

Anyway, so on Saturday night I took down Akira and watched that. And then I thought, "Heck, I've got things to say about what I just saw, but my usual repartee partner isn't here. Darn." Then I had my second realisation of the night -- I could post my thoughts on my blog!

So last night I watched Black Orpheus, and I'll write a review (or at least a commentary) on that later today. I'm going to try and post a new movie commentary every day for the rest of the month. I'll try and pick as wide a variety of films as our collection allows (that's pretty wide, to be sure), and I welcome comments on my posts.

Not posting them here because many of the films won't be genre films.

But stop on by if you feel like laughing at my ill-informed opinions on movies!

:D

To fill out your alphabetical list, how about maybe renting The Quick and the Dead and X-2?

Hmm, there's gotta be a better Q movie, I'm just drawing a blank at the moment...

EDIT: And it just came to me: The Quiet American, with Michael Caine and Brendan Fraser. Great movie.

Quigley Down Under?

Q the Winged Serpent?

As for X, I can't believe you don't have The X-Men.

Actually I can't stand X-Men. I think it's abysmal. Hugh Jackman is great, as is Anna Paquin, and I love Famke Janssen no matter what she does, but Halle Berry, the dull script and Brian Singer's tedious direction stole any life that film might have had for me.

The second one was much improved but even still. Singer doesn't know his way around an action scene.

Anyway, I want to stick to movies that are on my shelf, so I think I'll just accept the gaps.

Black Orpheus review is up. Last night I watched Jackie Chan's Crime Story (or at least as much as I could before I fell asleep).

Xanadu, your neon lights will shine... for you, Xanadu...

Oh, man. I'm going to have Olivia Newton-John in my head for the rest of the day, thank you very much.

If you're looking to fill the gaps, for Q you can always go with Quadrophenia.
He isn't, but I might be.

Anyone know any good films beginning with K and Z, since they are the two letters missing from my collection.

Then I just need to persuade my wife to go away for a month.
