How Many New Systems have you bought?

My primary system is HERO. I've not seen a game I want to play more than it in over two decades. D&D 3.x is a decent system, and it and d20 modern hold the top spots of "back up/secondary" systems. :) HERO being universal, and fitting to my playstyle/gaming approach better than any other system, I can just play whatever genre I like in it. :)

However, I have not purchased, aside from the aforementioned D20 games, a system for the system in over a decade. Now I do buy a bunch of games - I have a near complete run of M&M (Still need the last two), SAS, Godsend Agenda. I even pledged for/paid for Wild Talents. But I get all of those because I mainly play superheroes. So I buy them for source material, and for conversion. :)

So yeah... not much recently.

I used to be part of a group that played a new system every few weeks.

I'm a little jaded to system turnover. I pick up about 2 or 3 a year, which is nowhere near what I pick up for new d20 books or variants.

Well, I’ve already sworn in blood that I’m only going to buy rules-lite systems from now on… So if any more rules-lite fantasy games show up, I’ll probably take a look at them.

The past year? Paranoia XP, Warhammer 2E, Wilderlands of High Fantasy, Iron Heroes, Mutants & Masterminds 2E and A Game of Thrones.

I played a 6-month IH game, a Paranoia 1-shot, play in an M&M PbP, and really, really want to play AGoT and Warhammer, but am instead DMing a D&D game. My players have had enough of learning new systems, too. I laughed when I got the look from one of them last night when I metioned the circulating 4E rumors.

Wow, over the past year I've bought quite a bit of stuff. Let's see Unknown Armies, D6 Fantasy and D6 Space, Pendragon, Ars Magica 4th Ed, Blue Planet, and Palladium Fantasy. That's it for new systems but I have been buying quite a bit of D&D stuff from OD&D alll the way through 3.5.

In the past 12 months - zero. Every new book I've bought has either been D&D, D20 (not that there are many true D20 releases anymore), or OGL. The one I'm the most happy with right now is True20.

I picked up Qin because it was such a gorgeous looking book, and I can never get enough Chinese based rpgs.

It was friggin gorgeous!! If the mechanics are half as good as the art and layout that thing is going to rock! But I didn't buy it.

I bought RA:R, Six Spheres, Coils of Set, picked up my Ennies auction winnings (HARP, Iron Heroes, Goodman DCC's), Silk Road, OoTs books (all 3 of them), bought Goodmans new setting and the HB with all the low level adventures, plus a "I got wasted by the Devil Queen" T-shirt, then some of those Game Mastery decks and the limited edition Black Dragon from Paizo, Epic Roleplaying (a skills based RP system that sounded pretty well thought out, haven't read it yet) Fat Dragon Games CD's, Fiery Dragons boxed sets for the XRP monster books, plus the Gold and Summoning print version. A couple of C&C modules from Goodman and the Trolls, a Wilderlands boxed set for Grodog ($25.00), bought 4 or 5 prints from Peter Bradley, L5R third edition (theirs, not d20), and probably a lot more I am not thinking about. I know my "weight limit" on my luggage was over a 120 pounds more going back home. I know it wasn't all the dirt and sweat in our dirty laundry.

So that is what? 4 or 5 non-D&D system books?

In the past 6 years, I have bought:

* Hackmaster
* Star Wars d20 (original and revised)
* Mutants & Masterminds.

I have no desire to buy any more systems (save SW d20 saga edition). D&D is fulfilling the majority of my role-playing desires at present. On the rare occasions I want to play something different, I go back to the Amber Diceless RPG that I bought so many years ago.

Cheers!

So how many new fantasy systems have people bought over the last year that weren't d20 or d20 based?

None. ...and to be honest, now that I think about it, I'm not sure if I have ever bought any non-D&D/d20 fantasy based game. I've bought plenty of games and played quite a few, but never bought another fantasy game. The only non-D&D/d20 game stuff I've bought in years has been White Wolf and Classic Traveller.

...wait. I take that back. I have bought a non-D&D related fantasy game. I still have my copy of Dinky Dungeons, which I purchased back in the 80's sitting at my parent's house with all my other "Dinky" games.
