How Many New Systems have you bought?

Lots. At one point our group would buy the core book of every new system just so we could look at various mechanics so we could pillage them for house rules. Plus I get very bored if I play the same system for too long.

Lately I haven't bought many though. Of course I haven't bought much RPG material at all lately. Perhaps a dozen or so products in the last 12-18 months. And most of that was material derived from already existsing systems.

In the last year, counting from Ropecon and not the calendar date, because it's easier... seven.

1) Nobilis. Because it looks pretty, it was cheap, and because people have said good things about it. It's a beautiful book, beautifully written, and completely unplayable.

2) Fading Suns. Because Bill Bridges was at Ropecon last year, and he spoke well. I am fond of the Dune-esque setting and medieval society in space atmosphere.

3) Exalted. The second edition came out, and I picked it up for my essential systems collection.

4) Serenity. Because I'd buy a bra if it had the Firefly logo. And for the record, I'm a guy.

5) Space: 1889. It was a couple of pounds at DrakCon in Aberdeen. I love the setting and have plans to loot it for cool stuff for use with a completely different system.

6) Unknown Armies. After hearing for years about how great the game is, I finally picked it up last weekend. It really does seem pretty cool.

7) Weapons of the Gods. I wasn't really interested in this, but it was cheap, and I had to defeat a man in a boffer sword duel to gain the right to purchase it.

no non-d20, but I did pick up Iron Heroes and True20, both of which are awesome :)

I am planning on buying Runequest, however. The manager at my FLGS recommended it to me, so I have to at least check it out :D

Not much by way of actually *new* non-free systems (new to me, that is). Burning Wheel...? I think that might be the only one, actually.

I've picked up a lot of supplements for a couple of other non-d20 systems I already owned, however.

Still, most of my RPG shopping over the last year has been for d20/OGL products (from 3rd party publishers). And that's because these are the products I use the most from week to week.

Just non-d20, huh? In the last week:
7th Sea
Stormbringer 5th Edition
Mongoose's Rune Quest
Exalted 2nd Edition

And I didn't even go to GenCon :)

Over the last year, no way I'll get them all, but here goes:
Shadowrun 4E
Burning Wheel
Legend of the Five Rings 3E
GURPS 4E
Fireborn
Rifts Ultimate Edition
Ars MAgica 4E

Without having access to my library at the moment (I'm at work), I think that's about the gist of it. Add d20 based systems and you could probably double that list. That's just core books. Add all systems that I bought suplements for, and you could probably triple it.

I'm a sucker for interesting rules.

Just to give d20 a shot:
Arcana Evolved
Iron Heroes
True 20 (This Week)
Thieves' World (This Week)
A Game of Thrones
Spycraft 2.0
Mutants and Masterminds
Black Company
Lone Wolf
Grim Tales
Midnight

Man, this is hard without looking at my bookshelves. Anywho, I'd guess that's most of them. I do tend to buy a lot, and the last week or two have been very good to me. This list doesn't even scratch the surface of the various DnD and d20 Modern books that I've bought in an attempt to fill out my collection, and the suplements for many of those systems, and a great many more I've been collecting for years.

The funny thing is, I don't have time to read many of these. With the exception of Shadowrun, Fireborn, and Spycraft 2.0, I don't think I've actually read any of the stuff on this list, and I've probably not even opened half of it longer than to write my name in the cover.

Man, that's depressing. I actually brought a couple with me to work tonight, so hopefully I'll get offline and actually read something.

Edit: Got home and realized I forgot a couple.

This year just Exalted 2E and the new RuneQuest for non-d20.

For D20: True 20 and Spycraft V2.

I'm pretty much got all I need in D20, but I will take a look at other games from time to time.

Plenty of them, they are fun reads.

Now see, that was also me back in my younger days with more disposable income.

Does it look good?

Does it sound interesting?

What are the game mechanics like?

Nowadays it boils more down to, "I am going to play this in the next year?"

And most often I find myself thinking, "probably not."

Spycraft 2.0 - While I've owned this for some time now I've really only begun to soak it up. I don't like some of the more crunchy bits (like fluid initiative), but I'm really digging the half/half action combat system and the NPC design.

In one of my pickup games we did what Alex recomended (I forget if this advice is actually in the book): ignore fluid initiative except for class abilities. It works just fine that way.
