Assuming that 3.0 and/or 3.5 is your main game of choice, how many of you are at least open to playing an older version of D&D, say, OD&D or AD&D 1e/2e or RCD&D, or whathaveyou...

I'm just trying to get a sense of how many d20ers are of the mind to say "Never!" or "Sure, why not?" to an older version of the game.

With this being the 30th aniiversary of D&D and all, I've considered it. Thought it might be fun to buy a classic module off SV Games and run through it old school style.

1e is really fun for a one-shot, and I'd consider a campaign of it with the right DM. 2e is probably best left in my past; nowadays the non-weapon proficiency system grates on me like nails on a blackboard.

It would take a lot to convince me to play any previous version of D&D again. Maybe the promise of a Spelljammer campaign under a very experienced, personal favorite DM would call me back.

I'd be much more open to playing with the Storyteller or GURPS rules rather than an older version of D&D, not because I think they're necessarily better but because a clearly superior alternative wouldn't be staring me in the face. Other systems are different enough from d20 that I can stand the devation; older versions of D&D just seem like irrational mutations in hindsight.

Heck, 2e seemed like an irrational mutation at the time. :D

I wish there were more choices for this poll. In general, I'd say probably not, though it would really depend on several factors: which version, who was running the game, who the other players were and most important, why we were playing an older version. Because our group is pretty happy with d20, I can't imagine us going back any time soon, even in the name of nostalgia. But if someone had an idea that was just too cool to pass up, I could see the rest of our group going along with it, though probably not on a long term basis.

No way 2e was horrible and 1e whilst fun just doesn't stack up. I might go original for nostalgia value but wouldn't enjoy it:P

GURPS maybe...

The Rules Cyclopedia version of D&D (with some minor houserules) is my favourite version of D&D to DM (though that might change when C&C finally arrives). And the old D&D Gazeteers were the best campaign materials ever produced by TSR/WotC.
