How Many People Attend GenCon?

I saw on the front page that 85,000 people attended the Lucca Comics & Games convention in Italy in 2006. This made me wonder how many people attend GenCon each year. I would have thought it would be less than this but without ever having attended, I have no idea.

Does anyone know?

Individual attendees - not turnstile count per day - was about 27,000 for 2006. 28,000 swag bags were required this year and they were tracking for higher than 30,000 as of early July.

I believe they ran out of swag bags on Saturday morning. If so - that would put them at about 30,000 unique attendees. They have not released the stats (to my knowledge) for 2007 yet.

It's important to count total individual attendees and not turnstile - as the turnstile numbers end up counting about 23,000 attendees four times

If you said 30,000 people go to Gencon - you would not be far off.

It is my understanding that they ran out of swag bags on Saturday of 2006, not 2007. They were monitoring the swag bags a lot more closely this year.

Only thing I heard from Peter is that the ENnies are the Crowning Jewel of GenCon.

they did not run out of swag bags, quite the oppostie. they had, on sunday midday, a huge give away...dragging out dozens of boxes...where they were letting folks take up to 5 bags each. i think folks wanted the axis&allies things that were inside of them. i threw all that crap away, pretty much like i do every year, except the GC'd6.
