Then P-Kitty and I are in the running for the title crown, because my numbers jump to somewhere in the mid-1000s if one includes conventions, one shots and demo games. I've not been keeping count so that is a conservative guess.

I'm thinkig I'm close in the running. 1500 doesn't sound unreasonable.

But I voted 41-60, as that's my best guess; I can think of about 35, and I know I'm forgetting some, so...

I voted 41-60 as I can reliably say between fifty and sixty. These would include:
1 regular group in junior high + one one shots with some friends not in the group: 10

3 groups in high school (one at school, one at my house, and one in a summer program):20-25 (taking into account some overlap)

3 groups post college : my current group (which has had some membership fluctuate with marriage and moves), my ex-roomate's group, and an ex-bosses group: 21

If I were to include one shots at two cons and a few one shots at a gaming club two of my friends dragged me to during the 80's, the number probably exceeds 60, but is less than 80.

Somewhere in the region of 200-300 - and that's just counting conventions.

Outside of conventions, the number is around 40-ish.

Exclude conventions and one shot games...and the number will drop dramatically for a lot of people I bet.

One of the few in the 81-100 group! I just recently made a huge leap by playing some RPGA games. I played at a local con this past summer and a 2 round game day last month. Those games alone added 29. Otherwise, I'd be in the 61-80 group.

Otherwise, I counted 49 I'm positive about and 7 maybes. The maybes are folks I know I rpged with, but i"m not sure on D&D. I figure there are a few I forgot about as well.

My chronological breakdown, as best as I can figure, is as follows. There is overlap across all 4 categories, however, I believe only one person fits in all 4. This list excludes the RPGA games, otherwise add 29 to the last category):
17 in Junior High
20 in High School
23 in College
12 since College graduation.

I also have a little less diversity, since I didn't move much, and never out of state. My adult friends were HS and college friends. The "homeboy" life probably keeps me out of the top section as well.

You know, when you play D&D with someone, you're playing D&D with everyone they've ever played with, etc...

Actually, Two game-days, 5 separate gaming groups, 15 years. About 30-40 sounds good.

Let me see:

1. Pre-High School (1976 - 1982) - just with my family and a few close friends. ~6
2. High School (1982-1985) - As President of the Math, Computer Science, and Chess club, I expanded the club adding D&D and boardgames. ~20
3. Technical School and early college (1985 - 1988) - two steady groups and I was involved with the Parkside Area Wargamers and ran several D&D games at GenCon when it was still at UW Parkside and a few after the move to Milwaukee. ~100
4. Army Reserve (1988 - 1989), during training as a 91G and my year as an active reservist I had a group with rolling membership due to military moves. ~30
5. Active Navy (1989 - 1990), A school and Power School, steady group alternated DMing. ~10
6. Active Navy (1990 - 1993), group with rolling membership. ~25
7. Medically Retired (1993 - 1997), wife in Air Force, group with rolling membership. ~20
8. Divorce (1997 - 1999), failed efforts to build game club on campus at UAA. ~20
9. Now (1999+), happily married to a gamer, small steady group with a bit of turnover. ~8

The above should be within +/-10%.
