How many people use these boards?

I know that my cable modem provider uses DHCP - it may be more common that one would think.

so, morrus, eliminating a certain percentage for multiple IP's, you could still EASILY claim that anywhere from 15,000 to 25,000 users visit ENWorld. That's being conservative in the extreme.

I got a DSL and get a new IP every time I connect.

BTW, there are actually two people visiting the boards. That's you, and me. I have a few thousands multiple accounts and faked all the IPs. And I type really fast. :D

DHCP?

I have had cable modems for four years now (in California, then here in Illinois), and although the network is supposely DHCP, I have had only three unique IP addresses in those four years. Go fig.

<with a mighty heave, Eridanis attempts to move thread back on track>

Let us know what the final tallies are, Morrus. I know I'm curious how many of us there really are...

And do the math, I'm curious. Who knows, it may reveal tasty info. Then again, it may also reveal nothing and be based on flawed assumptions. So be.

* DHCP: The provider has a pool of addresses. When you reboot / reconnect or simply your lease (time allotted for an IP address) expires, the DHCP process sees that you get a new one. Now, if your provider has more IPs than they have users and don't care about screwing around with lease times, etc. you could nearly always get the same one.

Note this was a poor-mans explanation. It doesn't work that way at all. In reality there is a little pterodactyl inside of your PC that decides what your IP address is. Some of them change regularly....others are just sticklers for tradition.

I had no idea!

I am amazed at how many people come here! Well, that's for sure is proof of what a great job your doing Morrus :D Keep it up!
