I'm just glad to learn that the hatred for Catalyst is widespread in both communities.
I made the mistake of backing their last KS. They charged me 30% of the entire order for shipping. So, for example, a USD 600 order had USD 200 in shipping charges.

It was then discovered that I could have walked into a store and bought the same items for cheaper than the KS rewards tiers with no need for shipping. Additionally, they released a lot of the product to stores before the backers got it.

I love Battletech/Mechwarrior and the universe, fiction, and games are great. It has so much wasted potential.

My feelings on D&D is a bit separated from the actions of the company that holds the IP.
While I have huge problems with WotC/Hasbro's practices, incredibly poor treatment of its workers, and utilization of the Pinkertons to scare or strong arm a content creator over WotC distribution's own mistake with zero apology, the actual game system and 3rd party products can still be enjoyed as their own thing.

I won't buy new products from WotC anymore, but there's no reason I can't continue use of what I already own, and utilize the large amount of 3rd party content out there. D&D has had bad leadership well before WotC, if it ever somehow by some weird circumstances gets away from WotC, it'd likely see such issues with new management again. D&D is bigger than the company itself.

7% bigger probably.

I reserve my hate for Palladium. Hasbro/WotC just occasionally annoys me, but they haven't stepped on a rake hard enough yet to get me stop or pause what I spend on. Though it would be nice if they'd have more caution about where they're stepping and on what.

This goes way beyond D&D too - I still buy GI Joe, Transformers, Heroquest, Axis & Allies and other items from Hasbro/WotC. To be truthful, I've been more interested in following the new Rattler they're working on than 2024 D&D.

How much does news, announcements, or antics of Hasbro and WotC impact your feelings about D&D?

5 = a large impact
1 = a very tiny (or no) impact

This thread isn't meant as an indictment or defense of Hasbro or WotC. I'm just curious how much people's enjoyment of D&D is impacted by these companies. The numbers are purposefully kept vague because this poll is more about your own interpretation rather than collecting data.

Personally, I'm a 1. When I think about D&D, I think about playing with my friends. I'm not really focused or paying much attention to the antics of Hasbro or WotC, I honestly don't buy many products (I'm a sworn homebrewer), and news about the companies really just doesn't impact my enjoyment of the game.

But I recognize that's not true for everyone!

Very much so, to the extent I'm no longer able to enjoy GMing 2014 D&D, never mind having any desire to get the latest version. I was willing to give them another chance after the OGL scandal but it just kept getting worse. Currently running Shadowdark, previously Dragonbane and Cyberpunk Red.

Honestly? Very little. I'm moving on to other systems, not because I dislike Hasbro, but because I've played almost nothing but D&D 5e since 2014 and, frankly, I'm sick to death of it.

I'm not gonna lie, if I had to choose a corporation right now to be angry at, I wouldn't take the one that creates make-believe games. I'm reserving that for entities like United Carbon or those pricks who demolish irreplaceable cultural goods. Muttering "oh noes these vexing criminals monetized my verisimilitude entertainment solution wrongly" doesn't really feel... important.
