Could it be that we were seperated at birth?

Though I do have two(!!) 1/2 orcs in my newest 3.5. The Players didn't want to upgrade to real orc. Meh, w/e, I bow to the whims of the players at times. The PCs will rarely meet another 1/2 orc however.
My brother! :)

I don't rule my table with an iron fist, either. I have been known to make exceptions for players on occasion. There was a player who begged me to let her play a half-orc...I told her that orcs didn't exist in the game world, but I could let her play a half-gnoll (with the same stats) if she could give me a convincing backstory. So she came up with a tale of a sorcerer's apprentice who got too close to the cauldron and got polymorphed into something ugly and beastly, and is on a quest to find a potion that will turn her back into a beautiful woman. How could I turn that down?!

The spiked chain is just absurd.

I voted some. First of all I like to have different things for different games for example a high magic game will have different houserules then a low magic game.

Now there are somethings I house rule for every game because I don't like how the rule was written. For example I hate how cleave works once you get greater cleave. Cleave no longer is needed so I house ruled that if you take cleave it automatically becomes greater cleave at the level you become eligible for it. I also house ruled that there are no cross class skills. That made me have to making a ruling on prestige classes that have cross classed skills. Basically I figured out what level you would be if you were taking the skills as cross class and that is the level you can first take the prestige class.

So I don't mind doing some house ruling but if I feel I have to basically house rule to many things I am not interest in running that edition.

I voted "a little" -- my hope for the future.

Looking back at the past, I've had to do "a lot." So ... I suppose, in extremis ... ;)

Reaper would probably not see light in *my* 5e, I am on the fence about At-Will spells however. At-Will useful cantrips I am cool with, but not sure I want to see at-will boom spells.

Bruder! You wanna go outside and fight over rules about a game we just made up?

So last Saturday was the first non-character building session for my shiny new Shackled City campaign. I asked the players to name a new dwarf-heavy tavern, since none of the other taverns on the map were close to where I wanted to start them. "The one-eyed Gopher" was the winner. Anyways, the mascot of the One-Eyed Gopher is a retired 1/2 Gnoll adventurer named Scraggly.

And yes, spiked chains are absurd. If I were to have a PC really want to ply a ninja or something I might allow it as a kusari-gama (sp?) instead of the stats for those presented in the DMG.

My kitbashing tolerance for 5e will probably be pretty low, as I already have a system that's taken us 30 years to duct-tape together and that - for the most part - seems to work.

But if minimal hammering is required to make 5e a functional replacement for my current game, I'll adopt it. More likely, I'll cherry pick ideas and shoehorn them into my existing game - a process I'm probably about to start in regards to the DCCRPG; which has some very interesting ideas in it.

Realistically, I'm pretty close to complete with 3.5; I've rewritten the magic system, pulled in variants from UA, PF, TB, and other sources, added alternate systems like the Psychic's Handbook, and I'm currently rewriting the core classes, to compile the variant rules I'm using and add in a few more.

The issue for me is that 5e would have to be so much better than 3e that it was worth switching to. It's possible; 3e certainly has its flaws, but I haven't seen that kind of progress yet.
