How much is a "preview" book worth to you?

I'm willing to spend (U.S.$) on a race/class preview book...

I'm really looking forward to the info in the book, on the other hand the general principal of paying for a book of pure preview information that I'm going to get soon anyway would make it a hard sell.

I was tempted to say I wouldn't buy it at any price, but if it was cheap enough I might consider it.

Note to JeffB and Mourn

Would it be worth you guys putting each other on ignore for a while, so you don't rub each other the wrong way?

Regards

Does anyone know what the actual suggested retail price is for these things?

If we're talking over $15, I am going to give my Stone-Cold, Lead-Pipe Lock-of-the-Week wagering tip that they will tank, big time.

Otherwise, a moderate tanking only.

The impetus for this discussion was the front-page news that such a product was already listed on Amazon.com. I'm pretty sure there's a price tag attached there already, should you feel the urge to look it up.

List price is $19.99. Amazon is $13 and change.

That's way too much, IMO. I'd pay in the $5-7.50 range for one of these (and only one -- just enough to know whether I'm interested), but no more. That's basically the level of money I'm willing to just toss away on something. I hate coffee table books (the very term brings images of rude self-absorption), and I can't imagine that these will be good for much else come May.

I'm quite certain that I'll pop into Barnes and Noble and browse through it, just to see if there's anything interesting. I certainly hope that's what WotC expects, because it sounds like that's what most people will be doing.

based on the fact that the Canadian dollar is SO strong right now, I might be willing to buy it from Amazon for $13, but only if it isnt a preview at all and has worthwhile content, even if that content is just art. If not, $5.
