I might take a stab at this after I'm done illustrating Counter Collection: Murky Depths & Slimy Shores.

Just a quick background:

Before I started illustrating RPGs for a living, I spent 6 years as an Art Director and Copywriter in several ad agencies. I won an international and a national award. I directed lingerie photo shoots (not that it relates to the point, but still... ).

So yeah, I might take a shot at doing this.

Guy I played Rolemaster with: (plays RPGs)

Guy from his workplace or something: (slightly hushed) So, I, uh.. hear you guys play with those RPGs.. where can you do that around here?

GIPRW: Oh, just Saturday evenings at my house.

GFHWOS: Wow, really? And nobody's complained? Where do you get these?

GIPRW: There's a place at the mall that carries all kinds of stuff like that.

GFHWOS: (is stunned)

This guy was later quite disappointed to find out the first guy was actually talking about roleplaying games and not, in fact, rocket-propelled grenades. Yes, there's a chance I may live in a town full of rednecks. The quotes in the first post just reminded me of that.

I usually try to describe it as interactive storytelling where some challenging actions are determined by die rolls. Though most non-gamers who ask me about it have an idea as many people I work with are about my age and at least have heard of the game before and have a basic idea of what it is.
