How much more powerful are Spycraft's base classes than D20 Modern's?

That's fair. There were a lot of people out there who must've not liked SFA - with the death of that line, you don't have to worry about those books getting all the aforementioned goodies :)
Well, I'm not gloating about the end of SFA -- I can appreciate the craft and care that you all put into it and I think there's a lot of good things about it, but at the end of the day it just didn't mesh with my sensibilities enough to pull me in. You can't please everyone, I guess. I will confess to a guilty hope that some of the better crunchy bits in SFA will see renewed life in silver books or hopefully, Spycraft 2.0.

True...the core book really was a spy game, and it's fair to judge the game on that basis. But over the last 2 years, there have been a lot of evolution of the rules - from new base classes to prestige classes to feats and rulesets and skill usages - that move the game beyond the core books scope. Now, CoC investigators with the Scientist class wouldn't be able to lay down fire with an SMG, though ones from the Sleuth class might. 15+ core classes and over 100 prestige classes gives you a lot of options...
Agreed. You have no idea how much I would love to see a Spycraft 2.0 with some polish and some nifties from 2+ years of development experience inside and outside the Spycraft line... honestly, 2005 isn't fast enough for me. :]

Agreed. We all have high hopes for Dark Inheritance (released this summer!) to part the curtains a little more for these new genres to start to shine. From what I've seen, folks shouldn't be disappointed ;)
I'm a DI fan from the very beginning so it won't take much to sell me. As sad as I am to see D20M lose a setting, I can see where Spycraft is a better fit for what Mythic Dreams wants to do with the setting and I think a second edition will allow them to smooth some of the rough edges in the initial offering. It's a great match, and if anything I think DI could be a better fit for Spycraft than SFA was.

My only concern is that DI is being released a year or less before a revised edition of the corebook. I hope that any changes in the core won't impact DI too severely.

Being the mechanics lead on both lines, I have a little bit of an edge in seeing to it that DI is largely 2.0 compliant in advance :). Like Stargate, DI will be something of a preview of 2.0.

I was hoping this might be the case but thought it might be presumptuous to ask. :D Great news!

I'm allowing all the mixing the players want to do. I leave the Game Mechanics up to them and if I think they've explained themselves well enough, I approve.

I am easy that way.
