You're right. Enough subdual damage can kill a creature. It's a real nasty and lengthy explination that I just don't want to spend the time getting into. But if someone else does, more power to you. :)

Must be a House Rule.
Some situations have subdual damage converting to real damage (such as damage from envioronmental conditions); but generally subdual damge doesn't convert to normal damage.

Geoff.

Exhausting is a +1 ability, yes. The "drawback" is that the extra damage is not noted as energy damage, and there isn`t a note that says you could turn it off, so you always just inflict subdual damage. The weapon would be quite useless gainst undead.

Wait, could someone please clarify the rules about subdual damage turning into normal damage ? I'm not familiar with it.

In general, extra subdual damage does not convert to real damage. It should also be noted that a person knocked out by subdual damage has a 10% chance each minute of waking up. Also, they heal their level in subdual hit points each hour.

You would usually only need to track extra subdual damage in case a cure spell were going to be used on the unconsious victim; in which case 1 subdual point is cured for each normal point that is (or would have been) cured.

Why use just merciful or just exhausting?

Since they are 2 different enhancements, use both for +2d6 and all damage is subdual.
