Why is everybody talking about bards? They don´t have the monopoly on the Perform skill. A commoner will do, if he´s skilled enough. A 1st level commoner (4 ranks) with a Cha of 12 and Skill Focus (perform: string instruments) has a +8 modifier, enough to take 10 when playing the lyre and earn a living playing at weddings.
