How often do sex and romance come up in your games?

I also had a kind of "Hangover" type game once. One of the PCs in that game, after finding that the whole group had missed about two to three months of time when the game started, later discovered that during his missing time, he had apparently been married to a tiefling assassin posing as a prostitute in a brothel in Freeport. And it wasn't just a marriage of convenience, she seemed to genuinely like him... in the bedroom and elsewhere.

Although he also had the very real fear that if he messed anything up somehow that she would kill him in an instant.

Good times.

It's come up a few times in games I've been in. Usually when I DMpr I just try to say something like "you woo the barmaid", fade to black and move on to what other PCs are doing. I'm not going to force my other players to sit through your dex checks as you try to unhook her bra.

Recently I did have one DM that seemed to be really into the fact that the other PCs hired my barbarian some ladies of the night. I eventually asked him skip ahead because I really REALLY didn't want to roleplay my constitution checks....

Sex occassionally happens in a 'wink, wink, knowwhatyamean', but only off screen.

Romance hasn't happened in any game of mine since before any of us got to experience the real thing. Soon as the romance stopped being fantasy in itself, it stopped showing up in games. Before that it happened but I cringe when I think back to it.

2) In a campaign I wasn't in, one PC was a female half-orc with low Charisma. She hit on every male, and apparently her Diplomacy was so bad her every attempt was actually an Intimidate check. ^^

Sounds like my Ennis :D Except she is also the one disappearing into every house of ill repute we find along the way.

Funny thing is, I created her to show someone else how annoying it is if his male PC does that too much and then it turned out to be an important part of her character.

It's happened once. The paladin we chose to rule our kingdom in our Kingmaker game asked about wooing an NPC to have her named as his queen.

That's it. I honestly can't even recall a time when someone asked if their PC could seek out a brothel.

They fight monsters, kill them, and take their stuff. They're not comfortable trying to woo me via PC/NPC relations, and I'm not comfortable wooing them. And one of them is my WIFE.

To the OP, I would say virtually never. My players are not really into developing relationships or even remotely interested in rp'ing carousing, so we don't get into it.

Nobody goes into brothels, nobody rp's hitting on the barmaid, everyone is single, unmarried, and have no sexual orientation (except one player who just made a statement about what his character preferred, but that's it).

I don't see the point of it other than to kill time with the rp skills. There's too many monsters that need d20's rolled against them and their gold lifted from their lairs.

Seems like romance is a big part of my games. A whole story arc of my last game revolved around willing to sacrifice an NPC that one of the PCs loved, in order to save a kingdom. One of the PCs had also defined her character according to the NPC she loves.

For sex, yeah, just fade to black. In one of the games I was a player for, another player spent way to much time chasing NPC and prostitute tail. It was fun for him, but extremely boring for me after the first 3 times.

We haven't anything stronger than implied and/or fade to black since about 1997. Our group is a large, long-running group, and since that year, there's always been at least one kid running around loose in the room or nearby. We've even had moments when I had to tone down the violence more than my normal (which is not terribly strong anyway). When you've got three or four Moms playing characters, the "look" can get pretty extreme. :D The last time we had a succubus as a serious threat, I had to do some fancy tap dancing to get the point across indirectly, as we had seven kids under 13 in the next room.

OTOH, that same history means that we can imply a lot without being terribly overt. Because we are a large group, we've often had characters that were deliberately opposed to each other, to create friction and fodder for roleplaying. A lot of these same players were in a pre-1997 game that featured: A nymph with powerful magic not afraid to use seduction to get her way; a woman-hating (male) warrior, a man-hating (female) warrior, and a "spoiled princess" type with dominating magic. The poor "diplomat" in the group spent half her time keeping the party together, with the erratic "ninja" character as sometimes the "stable influence." :D

I can do a "It Happened One Night" montage and invoke a lot of shared history.

It happens in our games.
PC n PC
PC n NPC
For the most part though its Fade to Black and than Boot Scene stuff.

One of the best ones though were two PC's (Star Wars Saga) who never actually did so but were constant flirts with each other where their crews actually had wagers going on when they would hook up. Some even tried rigging it by making special dinners or sending gifts that looked like it came from the other PC.
Ended up with both PC's marrying other NPC's.
