How often do you fully rest up?

What are people's experiences in 4e with stopping for the day to rest up?

In 3e spells and hp were generally the two factors driving parties to stop and rest up for the night in adventures with 1/day special powers (rage/smite/instant metamagics) coming in as a distant third reason. There were ways around this however. Wands of cure light wounds could heal up a party so they would keep going after fights however and if spellcasters were using 50 charge wands for combat magic they could keep pushing on in many situations. Some classes such as fighter, rogue, warlock, monks, dragonfire adept, soulknife, etc. provided always useable powers that did not require a rest to recharge.

What are people's experiences in 4e with healing tied to a daily number of healing surges and all classes having daily powers tied into their class functioning? Do you find resting for the night for resource management purposes the same, similar, or different from your experiences in 3e or prior editions of D&D?

Two things make my players stop and rest in the campaign.

1) I say: It's getting dark, and you are hungry. It's time to find a spot to camp, unless you plan to go on through the night.
2) They run out of healing surges and are in dangerous territory.

So far, the lack of dailies have yet to stop their adventuring day.

When a party member is out of healing surges, to avoid travelling long distances overland at night, or because normal townsfolk that we need to talk to are asleep.

Daily powers are a consideration, but tend to get depleted in step with healing surges.

Well since combat is of lower-intensity in my campaign. Dailies no longer recharge under a Extended Rest (they recharge after basically a story-resolution).

As such Extended Rests is only to regain Healing Surges, but since they have other methods of survival, and not much combat they don't need to do this that often.

I finally ran my most of the party out of healing surges -

2pm-8pm SC - finding the prisoners (failed) 4-3
8 pm Bar fight - elves and a bandit. (1 daily power left)
8:30 SC - bypass guards to underdark. 5-1
8:39 trap and stirges
9:00 enter Kurithik tunnels fight buggies
9:08 Kurthik young, corruption corpse
9:15 make camp
1am kurthik young raid camp
1:06 pm burn last healing surge
1:08 find new camp

11 hours, 900xp each. not enough for 4th level.
previously they rested when at least one person was down to 1 surge.
Or they had cleared the area (2-5 fights)
