LOL, I actually *did* make my first set of dice!!! I started playing during the great dice shortage of 1979. So my basic set only came with chits. We played with those for months until we did some geometry in school. We had to make polyhedra out of cardboard, so we just numbered them and used them as dice. They were about 10cm tall because the cardboard was hard to fold if you made them smaller and the seams would be less forgiving of minor mistakes.

They were great, but they kept getting crushed by the books in our Addidas bags. For a while we would carry around extra cardboard and masking tape in case we needed to make a new d8 or d12 before the game.

I had forgotten about that. Geez.

Well I'm ::cough:: 33 ::cough:: and have been playing since I was about 10, so 23 years kocked up in RPGing.

Finding rpg stuff over here in England was nearly as hard as soem of the quests back them, you just could not find it anywhere. For a long time we had about 6 metal miniatures and a load of plastic cowboys and indians..... ahhhh the good old days...

36, and I voted. My gaming group's mostly just about to round 30...

I'm glad I'm not MUCH older than the rest of the folks here. When I MUXed Battletech, every other page was, "'Dice', dude: you're ancient."

Back in my day, our home-made dice weren't cut from colour ink-jet printed patterns. They were hand drawn using compass and protractor on grey cardstock. Tabs were for sissies who couldn't keep their ruler steady and had to cover their cutting mistakes during the construction. By gum, we got so we could almost freehand a d8 and the edges would be true.

;)

And these mechanical pencils... Everyone takes a nice sharp pencil for granted nowadays. Don't get me started.

Cheers.

13! 14 soon

Darn you! I turned 14... 14 days ago! I wanted to be the youngest. Meanie-head. ;)

For the record I've been gaming since I was 10. I've been gaming by the actual rules only for 6 months now (It took me a while to save up for the monster manual and DMG, and even longer to find people to play with who didn't need to be restrained with duct tape (of course, I still haven't completely succeeded at the no-duct tape thing)).
