D&D 5E How Should D&D Next Be Advertised?

There are two ways I think they can advertise it.

Firstly, by trying to go after the A Game of Thrones crowd. If they do this, they'd have to ratchet up the maturity level of the game though, to something like Pathfinder. Make the art realistic looking - no cheesecake, no dungeon punk, no anime inspired giant weapons and floppy elf ears.

Secondly, they can be very '80s-ish, which based on my observation of young adults fashion, is undergoing a slight revival (blue hair and off the shoulder tops for women, Chris Makepeace hair on boys)

And they should have something like this

Also has a nostalgia value.

I like the idea of a new cartoon series maybe on CN. Sports like the D&D cartoon from when I was a kid. Except more D&D ish and less lame.

Product placement on My Little Pony. Hasbro owns them both.

Mind you, the MLP fan in me would rage at Ponyville being turned into product placement, but it would get them sales.

El Mahdi: haha. It would be. My comment is less to do with the incongruity of sports (particularly american football fans) to D&D fans or potential players, though I think there is some of that, and more to do with the fact that 30 seconds of Superbowl air time is, like, a bajillion dollars! A BAJILLION, I tell you!

They could probably get a few dozen commercials strewn throughout regular viewing times over a month for the cost of 1 teeeeeny tiiiiiiny slot during the Superbowl.

Yes, more people would likely see it during the SB. But I think potentially less exposure over more time is better than more exposure for one or two times. The key to advertising is a consistent message and repetitive presence in the eyes of potential buyers. (Consumers, particularly of non-essential/entertainment items, like a game, are generally a...not so intelligent lot. Remind them enough times how much they need and want your stuff, how "cool" what you are selling would be for them, and they will eventually believe it ;)
