CR +8, always. To clarify, my players love to min/max so, in general, I have to create BBEGs that can match them as a group on a one-on-one basis and then throw in bunches of minions to make things interesting.

umm there is no option for Party level +10... O.o

Honestly though, my BBEGs have yet to be recognized, their sergeants are generally Party lvl +2.

Cheers,
E

PS. This is in a 32 pt buy gestalt game that is pretty high powered.

Usually my BBEG is about CR 15 give or take based on levels and templates and my party is whatever level it happens to be at the time of confrontation.

Clicked +4 but often even higher.

BBEGs to me are to appear throughout the campaign with limited to no combat until it ius time to end the campaign. So my BBEG range from +4 to +6 depending on levels and classes involved.

Exactly.

I once gave a CR+21 fight (three level 13 PC's against a CR 33 Ultroloth Cleric). I really just meant for him to taunt them, mess them up, and leave, but they got him to 60% damage. (Edit: I'd have forced them to retire their characters if they had won, because it also had appropriate wealth for its level.)

For real fights, CR+4 to CR+6, depending on how well the enemy is tailored to the party.

So, where's the option for using BBGs with NPC levels 5-10 levels lower than the PCs, with lots of resources and connections?

Wouldn't such characters be high level anyway? It takes a lot of levels to be really good at things like Bluff, Diplomacy and Intimidation.

Maybe it's just because I'm used to d20 Modern BBEGs who are often high level Smart/Charismatic characters. They have little combat capability, but they're still capable people.
