How To: Create your own Tact-tiles

Have you been wanting a set of those spiffy looking Tact-tiles, but been unable to afford them, been unable to find someone willing to part with their's? Why not build your own? Recently I fabricated some tactical tiles of my own, since the official Tact-Tiles are not being produced at this time and I decided to share with anyone interested how I did it. The instructions and materials list can be found here.

Nice.

I'm always a fan of do it yourself type projects.

Thumbs up from me.

If you wanted to add on, I guess you could make a few with things like rivers, chasms, bridges, and other obstacles/features already marked on them... (But then again that would probably detract from the ease of use of tact-tiles...)

Very Nice. For the record, where's the best places to find foam board and self-adhesive laminate?

I did all of my shopping at my local Wal-mart, foam board in the school/office supply section and laminate in the Kitchen area with the shelf paper is kept.

Cheap Mini's? Hit the local Dollar Stores, if your region of the world has them. Many times I have seen and picked up bags of knights or other figures that would work well in my games. I also bought several plastic Dragon miniatures (again a buck apiece) that are quite close in scale to the aforementioned knights. As a bonus, I also grabbed several bags full of rubber snakes, frogs, lizards, insects, and other creepy-crawlies that work very well as giant versions of these vermin.

I'm thinking my next project will be cheaply made minis to go along with the tact tiles. Anyone have any suggestions?

I often use Dollar Store chess sets for counters... for $5 you get 160 counters in two different colors and 6 unique, but generic shapes. That's makes it possible to have up to 12 different types of creatures in a combat, and half of them (80, in this case) are either black or white pawns, which are great for hordes of mooks.

It's not a perfect solution, but it's cheap and great for traveling or for putting scads of opponents on the field.

Nickles with those circle dots on them. Put in numbers and with the common 3 colors in a package - there is a veritable hoard of "markers".
