How to design a Dual(?) Dagger-Wielding Melee-Type?

Personally, I think you're fine with Fighter. By the time you get to Ftr4 you can take Weapon Specialization, which is a +2 to every single hit. Weapon Focus:Dagger (or Shortsword, which you could say is a long, non-throwable dagger), Two-Weapon Fighting, and you're good to go.

Straight-class Fighter gives you a good BAB, too, and you can take Power Attack (which works just fine on light weapons in 3.0) to do a bit more damage with each hit.

It's tough to make it viable, but it can be done without Prestige Classes.

If you're playing 3.5, you lose Power Attack but gain extra options like Two-Weapon Defense and eventually Greater Weapon Specialization.
 

Knife-fighter

Actually I was playing a knife-fighter in a 3.0 campaign, and I didn't have many extra books to work with.

I fought with knives mainly for character reasons as I wanted a dark-urban rogue character (I was going for Assassin PrC). So I started off with Rogue and later took a few levels of Ranger.

The nice things about Daggers are their versatility. They can be thrown, they're easy to carry and hide, and can be used in close-quarters.

My character fought with two daggers constantly (a primary motivation for the Ranger levels). I also liked the Quick Draw feat for flavor.

But you're right in that 3.0/3.5 just isn't nice to dagger fighters. Fighting two handed helped, as did the Rogue's Sneak Attack (remember that the sneak attack also applies on thrown weapons to 30'). Improved Critical is also pretty much mandatory.

In any event there is one thing to remember: Dagger-fighters are just naturaly cool. :cool:
 

A special monk sect in the Scarred Lands setting allows monks to use daggers during a flurry of blows.

Basically, it is the standard monk, only the "monk weapons" are different. Monk weapons being the weapons you can use during a flurry of blows.
