How to Explain Evasion?

How do you explain a character taking no damage (with evasion) when in the centre of a blast radius?

For example, a barren stone room with no obstructions. A fireball goes off, centred on the character. How does the character evade without moving from the centre of the radius? Same thing with a large gas cloud attack.

It's really a stretch of the imagination to explain how a character managed to avoid the attack entirely.

Thoughts?

how is it possible to survive being at the center of a large fireball, or at least come out not severly injured anyways ?

and how big of a "stretch of the imagination" is the fact that somebody is casting a spell at you in the first place?

HUH???!

Two words: Matrix Evasion . You just pull some Matrix type crap and take no damage. It's not any more of a stretch then a spell-flinging elf. Or is it? :\

A spread spell spreads out like a burst but can turn corners. You select the point of origin, and the spell spreads out a given distance in all directions. Figure the area the spell effect fills by taking into account any turns the spell effect takes.

;)
