How to make a player stop being a paladin

No offense to the debate over paladins, but I think this is getting off topic a little. The problem as I see it is that the rest of the party is NOT playing a blue-blood heroic group. They are moral relativists, and they lie, cheat, steal, and kill sometimes. A paladin would never journey with many groups of PCs, so making him join a group because his player is sitting in the room smacks of railroading/bad roleplaying. It's all well and good that the player wants to be a paladin. Heck, he may even be good at it! But if the tone of the campaign and the party composition doesn't call for a true LG character, then it disrupts the game. The reason to ban a LG paladin in a party is just as valid as the one to ban a CE half-orc assassin: it simply doesn't fit with the direction that the DM and other players are going with the game.
