How to price odd magical items? (Or bizzarre stuff you can use in your campaign too.)

First Post
I have some odd magic items I might be putting in my campaign... I'm not sure how to price them though. Any guesses on what should be the Market Price on these two?

Petrified Glabrezu Heart: This odd item is said to protect the wielder while in the lower planes and rumors speak of uses by dark magi. This stone is roughly twice the size of a human heart and seems to be made out of a blackish stone marbled in deep crimson. The petrified hearts are always warm to the touch and seem to softly throb. The closer one is to the Abyss the more prominent the throbbing becomes. Only a few Baatezu know the secrets of making these hideous items, and they aren’t sharing those secrets. When touched to the skin and the wielder is within lower planes they grant +2 enhancement bonus to Constitution and +2 Deflection Bonus against any Tanar’ri. Additionally these heart-stones can be used to enhance arcane or divine spellcasting, though it’s not recommended that faithful of good gods use them. The petrified-heart must be crushed and destroyed as part of the material component of a spell and that spell cast will act as if Maximized as per the Metamagic Feat.

Deva Cloak: These cloaks are composed entirely out of Astral Deva feathers and bound together with string made out of their sinews. The cloaks grant the wielder the ability to Fly as if cast by a 7th lvl caster, once a day. Additionally, the cloak may be used once for 10 minutes to give the wearer some celestial qualities, but after the 10 minutes pass the cloak turns to ash and is utterly destroyed. Using this ability drains 300 XP from the wielder as it needs part of the life-force of the wearer to meld with the magics of the cloak. When so used, the following Celestial Qualities are given: Tongues as if cast by a 14th lvl sorcerer, immunity to Electricity, Petrification, Cold and Acid; Fire Resistance: 20; +4 enhancement vs. poison; and Keen Vision (low-light and darkvision; 60’). Additionally the wearer takes on the appearance, auras, etc. of an Astral Deva giving the wearer a +10 Bluff check vs. Celestials. This special illusion can only be penetrated by the True Seeing or a Wish; and then True Seeing only has a 60% chance of functioning properly. No sensory or low-magic information will show the wearer as anything but an Astral Deva.

Bodak Eye: These eyes can be used in several ways. They can be used as an additional component in a Necromantic spell, adding +1 caster level to that spell (this consumes the eye). The fluid within the eye can also be used in the manufacture of poison, adding a +2 DC to said poison dose. Lastly the eye can be can be eaten granting immunity to a Bodak’s Death Gaze for 1 hour; but there is a 10% chance that the user will have a Flashback (see Bodak, MM p27) memory of the Bodak whose eye it was. If this happens the user can take no actions for 2 rounds and suffers a –4 morale check to all attacks against Bodaks for 1 hour.

Some more interesting items I'm working on...

Dao Bread: This bread is made out of a luminous fungus found only within the elemental plane of earth. This fungus is mixed with flour and other ingredients, the dough formed is then sprinkled with finely ground gem-dust and baked. The resulting bread is a swirl of color (depending on the gem color used) that beautifully glows and sparkles in the dark. The flavor of this bread varies on the group of Dao that made it and the gem used. The bread is said to be delicious and hearty by those that have acquired a taste for it, something that is usually difficult for non-planars considering the ingredients (though it is in no way harmful).

Coin Beacon: These coin-shaped jade stones are often used by experienced planar travelers to find their way back home from long journeys. When the jade coin comes in contact with a magic portal it vanishes merging with it. It then sends out a mental beacon to the user for up to 12 hours. Once activated, he know the direction and distance to that portal, as long as the user is in the same plane. See Portal Beacon (p37 MoP) for more information.

Dead Stone: These chunks of rocks are pieces of dead deities found floating in the Astral. These stones seem to hold immense magical power, when viewed with Detect Magic or other similar magics, but seem to have no real purpose or usable power. They sell mostly as collector’s pieces or by researchers who wish to tap into their power, though no one in recent history has ever succeeded at this.

Shadow Globe: These glass globes appear to be filled with a pitch-black smoky substance. This is shadow-stuff from the plane of shadow that is collected through an alchemical process. If the globe is broken on the ground, a 40’ radius becomes Desecrated (PHB p192).

Essence Stones: These small heavy stones come in several colors, each representing a different inner plane; a red stone for the plane of fire, a blue stone for the plane of water, etc. They are created by gathering energies from an especially dense elemental area within the appropriate plane and then trapping it within a precious stone of at least 300 gold piece value. These stones can be thrown as a grenade like weapon and cause 2d6 damage of the proper elemental type to all in a 10’ radius. Most importantly the stones can be used to aid in casting, adding a +1 caster level when used with a spell of the appropriate descriptor (ie; fire with fire, etc.). Essence stones can be used up to five times this way before they are expended and crumble away. Lastly if Essence Stone touches an opposite element within an opposite plane it will create an Elemental Pocket (MoP p66) that lasts for 5 minutes. This causes the Essence Stone to shatter and loose it’s enchantment.

Paragon Diamond: Only found deep within the elemental plane of earth, these massive diamonds are utterly flawless and are prized by many. Paragon diamonds are difficult to work with and require twice the Craft (Gemcutting) DC then does a normal diamond to properly yield the stone out of the raw diamond. These diamonds sell from around 10-20k gold pieces when worked, additionally they are sought by casters for their ability to be used in enchantments and spellcasting. When used in spellcasting, they are worth 50% more in relation to normal stones. In other words if a spell called for a gem worth 15,000 gp, a 10,000 gp Paragon Diamond may be used instead.

Elemental Earth Fossil: Sometimes within the very stones of the elemental plane of earth can be found the petrified remains of ancient creatures that were trapped within the plane. These can vary greatly in price, condition and size. These fossils serve only as decorations or for academic studies.

I must apologize. I am using your Bodak Eye in my campaign. I gave it a market cost of 100 GP for one and 500 GP enchanted. Basically I am saying that an eye must be enchanted. Of course I didn't use a formula so I may be underevaluating them. Of course I still think the 100 GP per eye isn't a bad charge. Considering the DC of a bodak is 8 and for most 8th level characters carrying a couple eyes back to civilization for 200 gp is not that important. But I could be overpricing these. Comments?

You're welcome to use it! No need to apologize. I'm glad you were able to use some of these items in your own game, that was the idea :).

Obviously the problem is that many of these items possess multiple powers, often which some or many are single use. This makes actually pricing them difficult, compounded of course because many of their powers are not really "standard" abilities. If you want, I will spend some time tonight pricing a few of them, but nearly all of them will likely require a good deal of time and some ad hoc guesses.

Just IMO of course. I am by no means this board's magic item guru. :D

If it's a big deal and time consuming... don't worry about it. Some near guesses would be fine :).

What do you think of these items in general? I'm dropping them in Union, wanted some items in that "theme".
