How to store a big collection of DDMs?

I have over 2,000 DDMs. Currently I keep them in 5 of those plastic bins (the ones with 5 drawers that most people store screws and bolts in) but they're getting full and I still have quite a few "stored" on my shelf.

Any ideas on how I could store them more effectively? I thought about just buying a really big plastic toolbox and dumping them all in, but that could damage them and chances are it would take me forever to find particular minis.

For those people with large DDM collections, how do you store them?

I dump mine in a few boxes, "sorted" by size. It takes me forever to find anything.

I don't have anywhere near that many. That said, I store mine in a large case with custom-cut foam.

We use ziplock bags, sorted by alignment. It wasn't too hard to find something back when we first started collecting, but it's beginning to get more difficult - especially when a model sneaks into the wrong baggie..

I use tackle boxes. They have nice slots for medium-sized minis, then a basin for larges and huges.

One option is one of those huge fishing tackle boxes. Lots of different sized compartments and should hold a few hundred each. Can then do boxes by category you'd like (good/evil, release set, race, whatever).

We don't actually play the DDM game, we use them for D&D RPG games. That said, I store them in ziplock bags labeled with things like, Abberations, Inscents and Animals, Small Humanoids, Warriros, Dwarves, Elves... things like that. It actually makes finding the right miniature very easy.

I keep them in big tubs sorted by creature type.
For less common creature types I store them with more common, similar types (constructs with undead and elementals with outsiders.)

My skirmish pieces I keep in a seperate carrying case.

Storage of large collections is always an issue. My brother & I deal with storing DDM figures and Mage Knight figures (a much larger collection).

Our DDM figures are stored in a few different things. We have a rolling cart for our large and huge figures (each drawer is an alignment, with one drawer for multiple alignments).

We have compartmentalized tool boxes and tackle boxes for our other DDM figures. One box for each alignment, with the multiple alignment figures in separate areas of the lawful good box. Each alignment is separated by themes, as much as possible. PC oriented figures have areas in all boxes, the other boxes are based on what they have. For example, Lawful Good has a warforged slot. Lawful Evil has an undead slot & a hobgoblin/goblin slot.

I've barely played the miniatures game (can count the number of times on one hand). However, we sort by alignment because we keep track of our figures in the Battleplanner program. We use it to find figures we can use, then can see where it's stored by alignment.

With Mage Knight, our primary means of storage is baseball card boxes. They are cheap, and have separate slots for sorting (in addition, you can add dividers with sponges usually available where you buy them).

For transporting to games I have a great toolbox I found. It has individual little containers within it with two sizes (one twice the size of the other). I have one for accessories, one for tokens (for Mage Knight), one for dice and the rest for battleforces, excess figures. I can just pull out the container I need and bring that to the table.

That's what we use them for too. Some have gone to bagging them in little baggies. (psst! hey kid! Wanna buy some minis?) I haven't done that yet with mine but should. They're in a plastic storage bin I got from a dollar store. But it's full. Gonna have to get something else now...
