And the X-Files (though, that was when aliens would invade the Earth).

And specifically, it's December 22, 2012. Remember, you don't have to buy Christmas presents that year!

I think Nuclear War may very well be the way that society goes out. I'm not certain that all life will be wiped out, but the world as we know it sure will be. Granted I'm of the frame of mind that Superflu will likely get us long before that.

A zombie apocalypse would be the stuff of my nightmares....

I know what the Kuiper Belt is, I just don't see how it's supposed to end the world. That's a little like saying Uranus will end the world.

I also knew what Gliese 710 was, but I had not heard that it was supposed to make such a "close call" with our system. Cool info, thanks!

And Maya and Zarathustra -- I knew about those prophecies, but I still don't see how either of them is supposed to cause the end of the world. A prophecy of the end of the world typically isn't self-fulfilling.

Yeah, well...

I didn't phrase it very carefully... neither the Mayan nor Zoroasterian prophecies really say anything that I recall about how the earth is supposed to end, so I'm not sure how those can be voted for. Their inclusion didn't make much sense to me.

Oh, well - -by the OP's original admission, this is meant to be a silly poll, so I probably shouldn't think so hard about it.

I chose "sun burnout" (which I presume to mean supernova), but I should have chose Ragnarok, due to the convincing arguments in this thread.
