Is "not in my life time," an option? :)

In some way that would allow me to find those I love and spend my last moments with them. There should be no pain and no suffering for anyone. Which ever that is- would be the one I would prefer.

Silver, I fixed your minor error. I agree- give me time to say good bye and make it quick and painless.

Anything that would involve lots of pain, suffering and such- not at all desired. Futal battle for survival that I can't win- no thanks.

While I just couldn't support the impotence option, I could see the possibility of an infertility demise. Supposedly, fertility rates in 'developed' countries are already dropping. I could see us producing some sort of drug or synthetic material in the future that unknowingly caused mass sterilizations. We all know how fast those government regulatory agencies act on those things. I could see the human race going out with a whimper, not some cataclysmic event.

If you mean the world= human civilization, I am very much for climate change*. The Earth has gone through 5 great extinctions already and life is still here and I expect life will be here when we kill ourselves one way or another.

If you mean the world= the planet, I would have to go with a meteor strike. Something we can see coming. It should bring out the best and worst of people.

*For this poll. I am an avid user of mass transit and minimize the amount of power I use.

Now that I think about, biotech making invasive species much worse would also be interesting to see, though I really wouldn't want to starve to death.

Quite right. Fertility rate in the US is below 2 per couple, meaning that replacement rate is threatened. (Development Across the Life Span by Robert S. Feldman is my source). Part of it is that woman want to have a career first, to be established then have kids, problem with that is the female body is usually out of eggs by forty ish.

There are a lot of factors though. I think you are right about mass sterilization though the books that I used for that class do not touch on it very much. California still allows the the use of some chemicals that are known to cause birth defects and sterility- even though they have been on the EPA lists for decades.

What I think is more likely is that modern developed countries will slip into economic decline as our jobs leave for cheaper labor, the present undeveloped countries will replace them. The US and other developed countries will stager along. Eventually we will get back to cleaner living or the present undeveloped countries will poison the earth becoming the new developed countries and we will all be Ifed.

Shouldn't happen for at least another 50 or 100 years though.

If I could actually decide it, I'd pick "Big Crunch". It's less time than "Heat Death", but at least there'd be another universe some time afterwards. But I voted Ragnarok, because it's teh cool and humanity gets to survive, sorta.
