$45 million in the 1980s was a seriously major budget.You can't do much with a $45m budget. Probably an animation mix of "The D&D cartoon + The Hobbit" that would actually make money.
not sure they could have pulled it off technology / budget wise, but DL to me was always the D&D version of LotRI love Icewind Dale but I feel like Dragonlance had that epic arc that would've fit well in a trilogy, especially after the end of the original Star Wars movies.
