HR: Marking ONCE for the combat..to speed up the game

Marking has been one of my least favorite things about 4e. I'm thinking of some ways to stop the "let's change our mark every stinking round" aspect of the players actions. I'm finding that all that dinking around is slowing down the game.

Here are my thoughts on options for nerfing it (and the equivalent palading thing):

Option 1. You can mark an opponent once per encounter. Be choosy.
or
option 2: it is a standard action to change your mark

What other options have you all come up with and thoughts on this?

the fighter's Combat Challenge is good in this way: an attack assigns the mark, maintains the mark, and reassigns the mark. I don't even announce that an enemy is makred when playing a fighter because it's assumed by the DM and all other players. makes the mark much less meta-game-ish.
i like to RP a bit when I make my first attack against a specific enemy by saying something like "and now he knows that if he moves, or even thinks about moving, he'll regret it." or some such thing.
