Hugo award nominees announced

It's probably worth noting that these are the nominations, not the awards. The awards will be voted on and announced at Worldcon, generally Labor Day weekend.

Krug, I took the liberty of editing the Subject of the thread to note that this is for the nominees, not the final awards.
The Hugos.. are a bit off this year, as far as I can see, on two counts:
1)Brad Foster is nominated for best fan artist. However, his art has appeared on professional publications as far back as the 1970s. I am told that this nomination is for his work on fanzines, but that seems like a weak justification.
2)Johan Scalzi is nominated for best fan author - the man has published five novels since 2005! I'm told that this nomination is supposed to be for blog work. Again, I'm sorry - the man has proven himself to be of professional caliber, and should not be competing in the fan category. The fact that it is a slightly different medium doesn't make this a reasonable nomination, IMHO.

Abercrombie's books are imports. However, the first book has been published in the states, and the second and third books will be published very soon. I live in WA, so I drove up to Vancouver to buy the first two.
By the way, check out Joe's website: www.joeabercrombie.com. His blog is hilarious and he will respond to fan e-mails. I've had a very humorous dialogue going on with him for some time.
