Human Bonus Feat Question

Amadeus Windfall

First Post
I know this question's probably been asked a million times, but it's a question I need to ask. If can a human's bonus feat have his normal first-level feat as a prerequisite? I'm wondering because I want to make a wizard, and if I can do this then I could take both leather and chainmail armour proficiencies at level 1.

I don't understand why you would want a wizard to use chainmail at level 1 though.

Let us say you have 18 int (not unreasonable I should think)
With hide you would have 10(base)+3(hide)+4(int)= 17ac
With chain you would have 10(base)+6(chain)= 16ac

Also, the difference between light and heavy armors increases at paragon and epic levels. For example, elderhide armor is 7 points behind spiritmail, as opposed to the 3 point difference between hide and chainmail. Assuming a +1 to AC from the attribute increases between tiers, that's still an additional 3 points you're missing out on.
All that isn't an issue for a character who has Intelligence or Dexterity as his primary attribute, of course, and a wizard would usually do better sticking to cloth or other light armor. However, a Strength based ranger or a warlock could probably make good use of those proficiency feats.

cheers

Well, there is also the wizard that takes Skill Training: Acrobatics and Escape Artist, or Skill Training: Athletics and Long Jumper (or Sure Climber), or Two Weapon Fighting and Two Weapon Defense.

Or the fighter that takes Skill Training: Religion and Ritual Caster.

I suppose there is the rare wizard that takes: Shield proficiency (light) and shield proficiency (heavy).

And there is always the Skill Training + Skill Focus pair.

More amusingly, if you are a human and take Linguist twice I can tell you what languages you know at 1st level, barring house rules.

I think there is a solid argument for a Wizard with a higher Wisdom than Intelligence. Which makes the chain equal, and it gets better from there with magic armor, and armor improvements.

But realistically, I think the better choice is just sticking with light armor as you said, which lets you keep your Int bonus.
