Humor - OotS #443

Considering #2, it's a question of whether he's overconfident or not. As a lich with access to 9th level spells and a phylactery currently of whereabouts uknown (if it's the crown, then clearly he doesn't need to be near a phylactery to revive...which I thought was counter to the rules, but I can't recall and the SRD is unclear).
I don't know which comic it was off the top of my head, but Redcloak is carrying his phylactery, it's that pendant he wears around his neck.

Xykon has a few basic characteristics:

1) He sacrifices his followers routinely.
2) He's become powerful enough that he rarely encounters a credible threat to his existence.
3) He has a really bad memory.

Considering #2, it's a question of whether he's overconfident or not. Let's face facts, when you're effectively immortal, you're going to get bored and you're going to get overconfident. Without knowing WHY Xykon wants the gates (and can assume he has a plan for them), we can't really gauge his reasoning.

Oh, and I like Roy a lot. He's a LG, fairly smart fighter and the only thing that keeps the ragtag bunch that is the OotS functioning as a group.

I keep thinking that Xykon's pointed forgetfulness about Roy is somehow tied intimately with the Greenhilt-Blood Oath thingy...

First, let's assume that physics in general works the same as the real world...

Therein lies the flaw in your calculations.

In general, a person in free-fall has a terminal of approximately 54 m/s.

In general, a cartoon character in free-fall has a terminal velocity approximately the speed of plot.

Yes, this makes his minimum ECL 21, as far as I know. If I was Epic, I, too, would be making fun of the level 13's trying to kill me.

Do remember he's an NPC; as such, we should be talking CR, not ECL.

Now, we know Xykon is a sorcerer, meaning that he gets his first 9th at 18th level. The lich template adds 2 to the CR, making him a minimum of CR 20.

If he were a PC, then he'd be minimum ECL 22. Lich adds +4 ECL (sadly).

Not exactly a flaw... Allow me to reiterate:

Now, I know this doesn't actually mean anything in a D&D world, and especially in Rich's comic strip, but like I said... I'm bored and curious.

The thought problem was, essentially, "Estimate how long Roy was falling based on D&D 6-second rounds, and then calculate approximately how far he wouls have fallen if he was a real person and not a cartoon character."

I'm not trying to make any sense out of how much damage he took (though I think it's probably safe to assume he took the full 20d6), or whatever... I was just bored and curious.
