Hyboria/The World of Conan and D&D

Thanks for the info guys. The system sounds very similar to one of my favs, Iron Heroes. I have some other questions though if you don't mind.

How does combat work? IME d20 games in general can have that tendency to turn into move-attack-full attack until "its" dead routine. Does the Conan game do anything to keep it from turning into that? And what about treasure and loot? This is sort of a problem that Iron Heroes has. With no new magic gizmos and such for the characters to buy it can sometimes turn the players off. To me, the "Cimmerian Way" of handling any gained wealth would be to spend it right away on woman and drink. Is there anything that deals with this in the Conan game?

Thanks again.

Also Signs and Portents magazine has adventures and supplements for Conan, and someone is working on a battlesystem for the game.

One thing that is very good about it is the setting material. The best so far are the boxed sets about Messantia and Shadizar; the best single book is the one on Stygia. It lacks published adventure material which is a bit of a downer, but Vincent Darlage's site will tell you how to level the actual Conan stories which is pretty cool.

Combat's a mite more deadly, and there is a bit more emphasis on mobile combat, with some classes at least. But when all's said and done, it's otherwise very close to D&D 3e in combat terms, disregarding spells and magic items. I think more feats might help there (1 per level, perhaps?)

Ha. Indeed there is. :) Every. . . month?. . . week? - one of those I think - you have to spend 50% or more of your total wealth on 'high living', if you have >50sp.

Ya gotta love a rule system that makes you spend your money on wine (wo)men and song!

PS: agree more feats might allow more folks to take mobility style options.
